IGCSE

Cambridge International Examination

Since 1858, UCLES has developed and promoted qualifications in an increasing number of countries around the world. Every year, millions of candidate entries are received for CIE assessment from 167 different countries.

Cambridge International Examination (CIE) is one of the world's leading providers of international qualifications and assessments. CIE is part of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), which is a world-renowned department of the University of Cambridge. The need for internationally recognised qualifications has continued to grow rapidly, and in recognition of this, CIE was formally established within UCLES in 1998.

Cambridge qualifications are recognized worldwide as evidence of significant educational achievement, and CIE's mission is to work in partnership with educational providers to deliver high quality and leading edge assessment solutions to an increasingly mobile student and employee population. CIE constantly reviews its assessment provision, introducing new subject areas and qualifications to meet the needs of educators and students the world over. CIE also works closely with many Ministries of Education in order to put in place national qualification frameworks that are designed to reflect the local economies and cultures within a global context.

CIE, the Egyptian Ministry of Education and the British Council in Egypt decided in 1998 that admission to Egyptian Universities requires passes in 8 subjects at IGCSE at grades A-C. Candidates applying for faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Engineering, Computer Science, and Information Technology must also pass an "A" level subject with at least Grade E, or 2 "AS" subjects with at least Grade E, in addition to the 8 (GCSE subjects.

Manor House I.G.C.S.E. profile

Manor House is a well established academic institute. Since the early seventies, the school has been in a category of its own, leading and influencing Egyptian youth. Since our inception, three decades ago, over 2,000 students have graduated and now hold prominent positions in Egypt and abroad. This is brought about by our policy of combining traditional Egyptian beliefs with British orientated thought, thus attaining a balanced medium between the two cultures.

Manor House has a long history of teaching the courses of the General Certificate of Education, being the first school to follow the British Curriculum for Secondary Examinations. M.H.S. was the first school in Cairo to be accredited by the C.I.E [Cambridge International Examinations] as an I.G.C.S.E. centre for its Pioneer Project in Egypt in 1990 and has been one of the most reputable and outstanding centres ever since.

In line with the new ideals of IGCSE education, our day will include the subjects determined by the Cairo University entrance requirements of the Ministry of Education, together with the chosen certificate subjects and activities deemed prudent to the overall development of teenagers.

* The Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities have now approved the IGCSE 0471 Travel and tourism subject starting August 2010.
